I guess I should have said, the Calf plugins I have used are very good. I have only used a few of them.

...apart from that the fact that there are several Calf plugins with misbehaving DSP or at least not doing what they are intended to do - unless that has changed the past couple of months.

There are numerous better alternatives out there on Linux - maybe just not with so much bling.

As a hobbyist, I am not running MB as much as some of you professionals are. I just use it mostly to lay down quick ideas, then usually attempt to finish them at a later date. Sometimes they never go any further. Their Fluidsynth plugin is rock solid! It is probably the one I use the most. Also, the chorus plugin is nice too.
