Parametric Eq Recommendation
#1
I need a peq with at least 4 freq and adjustable q for each. What about the x42 eq? Are there better ones for the price?

if you are on linux,
i can suggest:

AVA LegacyQ

i've been thinkering about x42 for quite some time, i might go for it in the future tho.

if on other platforms (mac/win) for the price - i can recommend:

TDR Nova
https://www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-nova/
which is also multiband dynamics eq, apart from regular eq, and it has 'smartops' which tries to detect problematic stuff in material. (its bands are parallel, so it's clean as much as it can get)

ToneBoosters eq 4
https://www.toneboosters.com/tb_equalizer_v4.html
similar as tdr nova - in both of multiband dynamic eq

TDR Slick EQ M
https://www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-slickeq-m/
(for mastering purposes but you have also control of width for each band, mono frequency (up to 350hz as i remember) high&low exciters, and again smartops function like TDR Nova has)

Note: TDR plugins are not so cpu friendly, but the quality is outstanding so it's a tie.

my question to everyone owning x42 eq:
Does it compensate the loss/gain for the edited band like TDR Slick EQ does? since demo is not usable at all, as soon as you press first control, it goes into 'demo mode' and no way i can test it and make sure that i need it.
Thanks

Many choices in the parametric eq department on Linux. Apart from AVA LegacyQ and x-42 Parametric, I also use at times:

LSP Parametric - https://lsp-plug.in/
EQ10Q - http://eq10q.sourceforge.net/

Both of these come in bundles with some other very useful plugins, and are free. LSP plugins are available in repos if you're on a Debian or *buntu based system. EQ10Q is best downloaded from their website and use their .run installer.

No, sorry, Linux only.
It's a good idea to put your operating system and some gear specs in your signature so you get more appropriate replies. Wink

I thought everyone on Windows uses FabFilter these days. It seems to pop up in just about every video on Youtube about mixing on Windows! Tongue

On the a-eq when I increase the Q, the bandwidth gets wider. Isn't it supposed to get narrower?

@nik5: that's my mistake; sorry about that.

The label should say "Bandwidth" not Q.

It's fixed in the next minor update.
