I would echo Matt’s advice and pay once for a quality set of speakers.
Personnaly I prefer JBL LSR range and if I had the money some Meyers would be sweet.
Go around your suburb on annual cleanup day ( if you have them) if you want to pickup up some ‘average’ domestic speakers to compare, but firstly spend as much as you can for good speakers from a reputable brand.

For what its worth, I love my NS10s. As i say to my clients while mixing in my room, if i can make it sound ok on NS10s then its going to sound great on everything else.

But seriously thought, no other monitor i've ever used has exposed the mids of a mix like the NS10s.
