GUI Artifacts
#1
First post.  Mixbus user since version 5.  Loved v9, but upgraded to MB10Pro.  Originally running OSX High Sierra and couldn't pass signal to the Master Channel.  I upgraded to OSX14 Mojave, seeing that it was the earliest OS supported by version 10.  After a sluggish start and changing the quirks settings to make the GUI more responsive, the mixer screen now shows green artifacts whenever I pass over a channel strip and will not change back to the intended graphics unless I quit and start again. It gets bad enough that I cannot read any settings in the mixer page.

Is there a settings tab that I should be looking at?  I feel like I've tried everything.

Please see screenshot

P.S.,
I also still have my V9 installation, but it now has the same sluggish graphics problems and I cannot figure out how to manage settings to get rid of the graphics lag.

Mac Pro 5,1 Mid 2012.  64 GB Ram, 2 x 3.06 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, Radeon RX 580 8 GB, OS 10.14.6

Hi, JackNum...

Firstly welcome to the Mixbus Forum and five stars for posting all your details.

Secondly what version of v10 Mac Intel are you running ?

An issue was found on the first day of release with Catalina and so the latest version for macOS Intel is v10.0.11 you might want to download that if you are on 10.0.0 and double check.

I am not an IT specialist, just a mixer .. but I did a quick look on Mac World and checked the highest OS specs for your system and I get...

Mojave arrived in September 2018 (latest version 10.14.6) and can run on the following Macs....
Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid-2010 and mid-2012 models with recommended Metal-capable GPU)

I note you have a Radeon RX580 and I don't think it can support Metal.  So whilst you can upgrade to Mojave your system might not run properly.  This might explain the flashing in both v9 and v10.

Go to About this Mac and generate a system report. Go down to the Graphics/Displays tab and it should detail if Metal is supported or not.

My advice would be to contact support mixbus@harrisonconsoles.com and see what they have to say...

Thanks so much Dingo.

I installed the Radeon RX580 to make sure that Metal was supported and confirmed that.  I will make sure that I get the latest installation and contact support.   I've loved the Mixbus 32C platform for it's ubiquity with operating systems and backward compatibility, but I'm at a standstill with the new release.  Fingers crossed with my legacy gear.

  I appreciate the insight.

Did a test install of Mojave and MB10 on a 'non metall' Mac
with Dosdude's patch
and it is unusable...
MB10 seems to unload a lot of graphics cpu
compared to MBv9 onto the gpu
but if one has a High Sierra installation , MB10 will run !
Depending on 'metall gpu' better or worse...
It's MBv9 and other 'immersive' software for me

Hi JackNum, yes you are right the Radeon is Metal ready, my initial search did not bring this up.

Klaus I went down the Dosdude's rabbit hole years ago and wasted a hell of a lot of time chasing my tail.
Nice if you like Mad Haters and High tea parties... beware the brown acid...

Hmmhh...
I had good results with Dosdude's patches,
he clearly states that 'non metal Macs' would be unusable with Mojave patch,
depending on graphics
I gave it a try with MB10 and thought to post here, so others don't waste time

> not good ?

Hi,
Have you imported a personalized Theme from a previous version of Mixbus? I have had the same issue doing so. I think it is because there are zones in the new version GUI that doesn't exist in the previous one.

I have exactly the same experience. I tried to open this problem here on the forum and also wrote to support. It seems that there is no interest in solving the problem on Intel and 10.14 ++ OS. In Mixbus 10 I finally got a perfect response in the graphics after turning off the settings in quirks. But also green artifacts. Confused
I really hope that it will be corrected in the near future.

Thank you Petr and everyone.  I am submitting a query with support, and hopefully this can get resolved.  I certainly do enjoy working in MixBus and I hope to be able to work with it in the future.  I have done quite a bit of work to migrate from a certain platform to work in a more organic way in this DAW.  Let's hope MB10 delivers on a fix.
