High DSP on new PC and Install
#21
If you have a Intel CPU, you can turn off CPU hyperthreading(HT) to lower DSP load. HT is Ok if using eg. MS Word or browsing internet, but have no place in audio processing.  Audio is number crunching. I have a Intel i7 CPU. It has 8 threads on 4 cores. Two and two threads share one arithmetic unit, this means that before or later you will get constraints on the arithmetic unit and BOOM, you'll get XRUNS. In sessions with high DSP and XRUNs I have seen 5 - 20% less DSP load and no XRUNs turning HT off.

I use ubuntu studio and win 10 with mb v9.....ubuntu dsp is at max 32....windows 10 85 to 100% with only program setting there....NO ONE HAS ANY ANSWERS....now win 8.1 does a little better 12-42%....my thought is if mb 32c v9 and v10 does this in win 10 [on 3 different computers] and fresh installs, plugins bypassed and 2048 buffer, it is a mixbus coding issue...but really open to anything rite now....cubase 10 and protools perform with no issues....I really love my mixbus need answers somewhere....HELP, ideas appreciated.....thx

Somebody once produced a list of performance settings you could adjust (on Windows) but I can't remember where to find it. With a bit of luck, @Dingo or one of the other members here might remember...

In the meantime, I guess you could try installing Jack (and of course you'd then need to select it as your Audio Engine).

For problems like this, it often helps on Windows.

I posted this one before, it's very comprehensive and some recommendations are more effective than others.

I'm sure other guides could be found by searching something like "windows audio performance optimisation"

Thanks @sunrat but IIUC they seem to be intended for Pyramix owners. Can't find it now but I'm sure I once saw a set that someone had specifically produced for Mixbus users  Huh

Optimisation for audio is pretty much not specific to application.
There are a lot of guides on the internet - https://www.startpage.com/do/dsearch?q=o...ge=english
The Presonus one is pretty good. As is the Focusrite one -
https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/a...-for-Audio

I also recommend to run W10Privacy to disable unnecessary background and phone-home processes - https://www.w10privacy.de/english-home/

For Mixbus it's also important to set OpenGL graphics options to "Performance" or similar.
