Hi y'all
Any opinions on the difference in MB vs Waves J37 or other for tape saturation emulation?
Do I really need j37 or Kramer if I have MB??
I'm an analogue veteran but really need to be ITB and a little nervous about the switch over here!
All thoughts very welcome!
Kind regards,
G

Hi garyb,
I find the Mixbus tape saturation very true to what I was used to hearing off tape (minus the hiss and crosstalk).
I have Waves Kramer Master Tape for use in Protools but prefer the Harrison sound.

I compared it with Universal Audio Oxide Tape, I had it on all buses in Studio One, similar to the bus simulations on Mixbus. The mixbus seemed to me to be clearly better. It seems to me that activated EQ also contributes to better sound with Mixbus. But even if you turn everything off, the mixbus has a better summing algorithm. I spent many years on a tape recorder Tascam and FostexG16S.

I too used J37 and loved it.
Have not missed it since switching to Harrison.

Thank you for replies. It's as I suspected. While there are tape sat variants, it's really about whether it works or not. I'm enjoying the sound and have A/B'd with Waves etc. but a second set of ears always helps.
I'll stick with Harrison.
