Editing audio for video
#1
Just downloaded the Mixbus demo and within an hour or so I am totally impressed with recording/mixing audio. My question is regarding working with video. I don't see much info in the manual or online. Is it really not setup for working with video? I've been using Logic for the last 5 years and worked in Studio One and Cubase before that. I might be moving back to a windows system and I am looking for something to replace Logic. I usually have about 1 project a week that I need to import a video file and work on the audio. Can anyone point me to a video or even a step by step process on how it works?
Thank you so much!
Paul

I'm assuming you read this http://www.harrisonconsoles.com/mixbus/m...opic/video and more importantly this: https://manual.ardour.org/video-timeline/

If not, these will give you the details on how it works. On Mac you only need Jadeo, which should have come with Mixbus (you may have forgotten to install it as it's a separate application). If you're running Catalina you will have to jump through some security hoops to get Jadeo to launch.

On Windows you also have to install harvid, the video server, in addition to Jadeo.

I did read those and yes I did install Jadeo. It's just very clunky.
I was hoping for a smoother workflow. As I said in the original post I was impressed and ready to buy after only messing with it for about an hour. Audio wise it is perfect to me. It flows exactly how I like to work I may still buy it just for recording/mixing sessions but I wish it handled working with video better/smoother/ less like it was pieced together just to say it works with video files.

Yes, it's definitely not as smoothly integrated the way it is in Logic! If you do have to switch to Windows, I'd recommend checking out Reaper for this purpose; Reaper works better under Windows anyway. I generally use Reaper for recording and for MIDI, but use Mixbus for everything else.

See https://youtu.be/-n0V_KnXbRA for a video on how to work with video in Reaper. This goes beyond just audio editing (you can do some very rudimentary video editing in Reaper) but the first few minutes should be relevant to your work.

If you need to properly edit video Resolve from Black Magic Design is worth looking at, and is Multiplatform and free and contains a fairly decent basic audio editor, which is very well integrated. Free edition is limited to 1080P output last time I checked. (so no 4k output)

And what is the most optimal variant for a beginner? Currently looking for video editing software, can't decide which one to use, your help would be deeply appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Well a list of what you are considering would help...
As Sligo Sound suggested try Resolve from Black Magic Design.
Macmini 8,1 | OS X 13.6.3 | 3 GHz i5 32G | Scarlett 18i20 | Mixbus 10 | PT_2024.3.1 .....  Macmini 9,1 | OS X 14.4.1 | M1 2020 | Mixbus 10 | Resolve 18.6.5

I've been using Vegas for years.  Love it!
It used to be a Sony product, but it's sold by Magix now.  They also make a stripped down version called Vegas Movie Studio.  My son has a copy of that, and while it's stripped down, it still retains plenty of features to make it usable at the pro level.

One of the things I like about it is that many of the editing moves are similar to Mixbus, so I don't have to "shift gears" in my head when moving from one to the other.
