Question about EQ display (Mixbus 32c)
#1
When I'm sweeping the frequency with the built-in EQ, the readout that appears in the Track Name display doesn't show me the center frequency, it shows me a percentage. What's that about, and can I change it?

It has been a long request on a lot threads for 32C. It is not easy to do because there are always guys who would claim that "his" meters and measures show 1-3 Hz more or less and there may come endless foolish debates we do not need.
But hope is the last to be lost, so we hope for better future, and not only for Hz but for the whole Earth as well. It's high time just looking anywhere with eyes open.

Here are two posts that might give you the full answer (or not) :

Some of us are debating this thing over and over again, and I hope we do it for a long time in the future as well just for the fun of it. Welcome to the % Expression Knob Position Debate Club (PEKPDC in short, est. a long time ago)! :-)

It’s just the way the 32c is modeled after the original Design of its electrical design as well and the way the eq slightly drifts when using various eq knobs, I’ve gotten use to the 32c, the way i look at it is the frequency chart is a estimated ball pack I use to let me know where I am in the frequency spectrum along with my ears, it’s suppose to be like this

High (900 Hz to 13 kHz,
Hi-Mid (400 Hz to 6 kHz),
Low-Mid (200Hz to 3.1 kHz),
Low (40-600 Hz),

So if your looking to adjust 2K then you have options, you can use low mid, hi mid or hi frequency knob, just have to use your ears as well as know which frequency ranges each knob should utilize. If I’m dealing with kick and sub sounds I only would use the low knob based on I know that 60 hhz is in there, close to the beginning of those percentages

i.e. just use my ears. Ok. I get that. So that percentage just means that I'm, say, 40% of the way between the bottom and top of the sweep range for that knob?

Thanks, Jostein. I'm enjoying reading through these! I tried searching before I posted, but my criteria was to specific, I think, to pick these up.

You nailed it, the answer is yes! :-)

Next question then, is it 40% from the top or 40% from the bottom? I ask this for the benefit of the forum as I don't pay any attention to the %, just as I don't pay any attention to the markings on my analog (hardware) consoles. I started mixing doing FOH in bad clubs and I could not see the markings so I had to play it by ear.
Now, I will not post anymore about this subject.

It runs 0-100% clockwise, so at 40% you are 40% from the bottom and 60% from the top. I guess - I never really thought about that before Big Grin

Thanks for the clarification!

In reference to the "drift" you mentioned, it's not drift, it is interaction. If a circuit has "drift" that means that a component in the circuit is out of tolerance and should be replaced.
