Studio 1337 - USB-based recording station
#1
Haven't tried it, just reporting its presence here. Comes with Reaper, wine-staging, fine-tuned kernel, runs from a USB key.

http://studio1337.pro/

Maybe Mixbus could be part of it ?

That website looks just like the poorest scam. @.@

Who on earth would want to buy that (and even run on their computer), given the lack of the slightest bit of information!?

Huh

Well, here's a bit more description of this scam from their web site:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUAWrJ2UU_Q

And in this one they actually had problems (in 2012) with Ardour not loading jackd, when compared to KXStudio, AV Linux, Dream Studio, and Ubuntu Studio:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHZMW1n2AOc

The funny thing in youtube about that last one is that youtube shows:

Studio1337pro No views 6 years ago

And when one actually plays the video it is:

Originally from Puppy Studio. Ardour is seemingly included.

Dedicated forum on LinuxQuestions:

So you said it was a scam...

I found the above (apart from the first video directly on the front page of their web site) in less than 5 minutes.

This is standard GPL. What would be the problem with that ?

Looks cool but I wouldn’t bother with it, yes it costs money but at the end of the day the programs and apps are available for free. I see no value in it. It’s like paying someone to put Ubuntu on a USB and charging me for it. Just my opinion

Cheers!

Same here. I found it interesting, and it certainly has appeal for some. If it was free it could be a significant alternative statement for people running Windows-based audio production. This said it's a bit more than just putting a distro on a USB key. It's based on Puppy Linux which loads everything in RAM. It should be pretty fast.

No, I did not say it IS scam...

I said it LOOKS LIKE scam.

And still... The website completely lacks any version information and/or changelog - none regarding the distribution itself nor the included applications.

"...comes with a terrific selection of apps..." just links to a screenshot of the application menu? That's the only information? WTF!? x.x

So I can't even tell from the website if it's still actively maintained and up to date or if it's maybe an abandoned project. Also no information who is responsible for this...

Yeah, it looks just like. And yes there's attitude in that project. As you can see from the two videos. If you want an history of the project, go to the LinuxQuestions forum where he has it's own section devoted to this.

I've, been using Studio 1337 for many years. It's not
a scam, and not shovelware. The dev maintains
his own realtime kernel, and carefully compiles the
apps so best performance is the result.
And running from ram adds to the usefullness.

You can do a full install, or a Puppy style
'frugal' install, where at first shutdown,
you'll be prompted to have the system create
a squash filesystem storage file, to store your settings,
creations, and new software. You can enlarge the file
when desired, with an action that takes place after rebooting,
and the file can be encrypted, and of course is very
portable, nice for people who travel regularly,
and or visit family on holidays.

If you use Hydrogen, Yoshimi, Guitarix, Rakarrack
and other linux audio staples, it's a great way to go.
I usually add Thunar filemanager, Leafpad text editor,
and Terminology terminal, to supplement the versions
that are included, along with Reaper for daw,
and too many vst plugins for my own good.

The developer also makes announcements and
discussions at this link, which has topics for many
Puppy Linux versions:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/index.p...500d438453

Studio 1337 has also been a rescue device on several occasions.
I've got a new Mixbus that I haven't installed yet,
maybe I can do it this weekend.
Cheers
