Here's a really interesting article about potentially beneficial updates to Windows 10 users and your DAWs. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

There's a thread about this on Gearslutz....that caused Microsoft to do this. It's much ado about nothing. It's like "Windows 10 Isn't capable of professional audio" or something. It's the kind of shit Mac Fanboys dream up--while ignoring things like Apple removing all direct monitoring at OS level or removing various internal drive connectors and unbuffered audio interfaces--things that ACTUALLY have a tangible impact on everyone using OS X for audio production. I'll see those posters and raise them Chuck Ainlay and James Newton Fuckign Howard. Both of whom could use ANYTHING they want and are top of their class at what they do. Not to mention all the composers using Windows slaves while they sequence MIDI on their Mac.
....the long and the short is--this is fine that they're doing this, but it's only going to help people using SHITTY software and LOTS of instances of it--literally in that combination.
Like the Microsoft rep says in the thread--it's akin to running out of room in your closet because you keep jamming more stuff into it, so your solution is to build a bigger closet to hoard stuff into....professionals and hobbyists alike have been using Windows of various versions (all of which had this "limitation") for years and decades. This update is them giving sloppy dev a bigger closet. Should they do it? If it gets them good press, sure--I guess. But, does it change anything for the 99.999999% of people who don't have this debilitating problem of wanting to use a bunch of SHITTY Arturia Virtual instruments inside some kind of a hog of a DAW with a bunch of freeware plug ins? Nope. Not at all.

Yeah, they made the headline imply that...wouldn't that be cool? I clicked on it at some point and couldn't believe that they'd spun THAT...into that headline!

They who believe in upgrading are doomed to failure. It is the cheapest marketing trick, no more. I commited the mistake to "ugrade" from OS10 to 11 on my apple ipad I used for WiFi live mixing well years ago: then this I got: wanted to manage faders at a concert and instead of increasing volume the "task manager" appeared from the bottom of the mixer screen and cannot be killed, it is not an option, it is not you have "got" as upgrade but it is the shit you were given on purpose.

Do explain your understanding of how dynamic link libraries are used to share code between applications and how this maintenance release effects that.

I just read the thread over at Gearslutz. That's pretty interesting.
