netJack thread
#1
@Frank and I plan to investigate int netJack a bit more. So everyone who is interested/wants to contribute is welcome to share the experiences here.

I was successful to connect 2 Linux-machines and a Windows machine so far. It was easier than expected, however: qjackctl on Mint Debian doesn't like it, moreover, a slave started on a command line crashes with segmentation fault. No problems with UbuntuStudio 13.04, also Windows behaved after some tries (rtfm!!!).
I was able to share 20+ channels over the network but didn't have the time to check out the transmission quality and latency - I keep you all in the loop Smile

Great! Good to know it works with UbuntuStudio 13.04.
Hope to try it between UbuntuStudio and OS X.

The whole band plays over my laptop

Guitar over Guitar rig (NI)
Bass Guitar Rig NI
The wind instruments (flute and reed( = bassoon, 'sub" contrabas clarinet etc.) use FX and reverb Now in NI Kore : Later Mixbus

keys : midi straight into the laptop, a sampled grand, and some physical models
and I play a Yamaha WX5 (Midi controller) which controls several physical models: mostly in NI Reaktor.

Plan is to record straight into mix bus: but we are running out of CPU power, so we want to distribute tasks over several computers.

plan is to link several machines together with netjack.

one machine to run Mixbus, as a plugin host : and making the FOH and monitor mix and one or two to run some plugin hosts
Candidates are: a macbook pro, a Mac mini, and one or more Linux laptops
Since we play life it needs to be portable
I/O will be two focusrite pro 26 i/o
I will focus here on Mixbus and Netjack connections

IKIS is i think a dream too far away:

That's definitely possible: I connected a Windows and a Linux box so far, however 2 channels only as a test setup. Everything is completely transparent, input into and output from Mixbus over the net. That should fit your plugin scenario. Sound quality was excellent on 44100Hz and MTU 3000 in sync mode - no xruns with that.
Interesting will be my next tests with 88200Hz and more channels. I might use a dedicated NIC on both computers over a dedicated switch - all in gigabit of course. Also, if you want to run plugins and play live or do tracking, how will the latency be???
