10 plugins for 1: LA2A, 1176, CSR reverbs, etc... IK plugin sale
#1
*** Until October 1st 2018 ***

If interested in getting some emulations of popular compressors/limiters at a good price, there's a sale at IK Multimedia which is currently at 7 plugins for the price of one.

Also worth of mention the excellent OvertoneDSP emulations of the Fairchild compressor and Pulltec EQs for 10 pounds each. Also available as Linux native plugins.

Resources.

Using the 1176 and LA2A, from Michael White (Whitney Houston, David Bowie, David Byrne, James Taylor, etc...). These are not specifically for the IK plugins mentioned above, but it's the same device and the implementation should be fairly similar.

One neat thing I noticed with the 1176 emulation is that compression at a certain rate can make the sounds last somewhat longer. adding some kind of blur. Mixed from an audio bus this effectively adds 'warmth' to what could otherwise be colder synth arpeggios or sequences. Even more since the audio bus benefits from the 32C EQ.

Since I got the deal it looks like I'll be getting two new plugins for free as the 'group' grows. It will soon be get 9 plugins for the price of 1.

By the way, it is now 9 plugins for the price of 1, with 100 buyers left in 11 days to reach 10 plugins for the price of 1.

Recently I discovered the CSR (Classik Studio Reverb) Room style, that perhaps doesn't look like much although it has proven to be a nice warm addition to some of the sounds I make. Still have to try it out on acoustic guitar. If you try it out, do not be impressed by the default setting as it is not very good.

The only drawback in using the CSR on Linux is that one modulation field causes linvst to crash. I don't mind so much since 1) it is free and 2) the reverb and its many parameters are quite enough for me. All other plugins are running fine in Linux.

So far I find that the T-RackS plugins are complementing the 32C aspect of Mixbus very well.

Cheers.

The real discoveries for me are the CSR reverbs (room and hall). Second are the compressors and the tape delay. The quad stereo tool seems also nice although I haven't spent any time with it yet. The One and Saturator, not sure, but nice to have in the arsenal.

Really, putting a CSR reverb, properly adjusted, on a 32C audio bus and adding 32C EQ treatment (perhaps a bit of Mixbus compression also) can be very nice.
