Sounds of the DX7

The Dexed linux-windows vst does a fine job hosting sysex files
of Yamaha DX sounds. This is a 'bump' in case someone here loves those
sounds, but missed the great work of BlackWinny, who spent many
moons sorting 8000+ sysex files, removing the wide variety of duplicates
and flawed files. The story is quite interesting, told at the link above,
with the result being a 10 meg zip archive 'Cartridge' of pure dx goodness,
over 2000 uniqe files, a lot of them holding 32 sounds, with a surprisingly
wide variety, perhaps due to the DX7 being so well established,
that releasing new sounds that were simply rehashed,
wouldn't enhance the ole resume'.

Hexter is a linux dssi DX7 clone, able to play the same collection,
by expanding the Cartidge archive and diving in to 28 meg of sysex files.
Pressing the Hexter Edit button exposes the DX internals for tinkering.
I have both running, Dexed in Mixbus, and Hexter standalone,
started by the jack-dssi-host command. Native Instruments FM7 and 8
also play them, and they work very well in a wine setup, so options abound!

The artifacts website may have other items of interest,
so take a few minutes to snoop around.

This is another good linux resource, some excellent tutorials
and sundries, to keep your sytem and synapses running fast.
Cheers
