What's the legit way to record the output of a virtual instrument?
#1
Quite often, I like to jam with an instrument (my bass) against a VST instrument drum track such as Addictive Drums. The easiest way to set up the drums is to use the included beats and press "play" on the plugin interface.  But in Mixbus32C it appears that the only way to record the drums along with my instrument is to use two tracks: track one has the plugin and send audio out to monitor, track two has a receive from track one and records the audio of the plugin.  My (real) instrument gets recorded on track three.  Is there a better way? For instance, in Reaper you are able to set the track with the VST instrument to record the audio output.  But I can't see a way to do that in Mixbus.

Check this video from Nathan about multi outs for Ezidrummer... it might help.

Older video here about Addictive Drums... the same principals should apply to later versions of Mixbus.

You need a loopback channel on your interface that allows you to select the output of your plugin.  RME, Focusrite, SSL12, Studiolive and Audient are all the ones ive used over the years with great results.
