@Klaus, I have tested this and it can be done....

However please make a backup and if in doubt email support (mixbus@harrisonconsoles.com) and double check.

Note this process will rename the Source file within Mixbus session BUT does NOT rename the original in interchange /session_name/audiofiles folder.
It will also not update the region name that was created during recording.
But does enable you to rename the Source and drop that on another track, subsequent regions dragged from the renamed Source will reflect the rename.
Control+2 will send the newly drag and dropped region to it's original (recorded) time stamp

In Edit page select Sources tab from Editor List.
On macOS keyboard use Option + click on file name.... that will allow you to rename the Source (within the session).

Test it out on a dummy session and make your own judgement.

Thanks Dingo
I get tracks by numbers, but need them by instrument name...
i.e. to recognise in Melodyne etc...
I would like to rename the tracks / and actual soundfiles inside Mixbus
with no processing, soundbite gain etc, just a renamed copy
( source list ? )
or is export needed ?
( I'm editing in Digital Performer,
it can rename the actual soundfile,
but would like to do as much
work as possible in Mixbus )

Perhaps you might consider renaming files before importing into Mixbus, you can retain the number but amend with text as well.
In macOS you can batch rename with amend - not sure about other OS...

Though it would be worth a Feature Request to be able to do same at Mixbus level.

If the files are not that many, what I would do would be to modify the names of the files in the folder where they are stored. Upon entering MB32c it will inform you that the file "xx.wav" cannot be located in that location, at that time you should use the locate it option and tell Mixbus which is the file with a new name that corresponds to that name with numbers . Was my answer understandable? Anyway, I think Melodyne takes the name of the channel, not the file, so it would be enough to just rename the channel.
