How can I mute part of a track?

I have a click track spanning a whole recording session, and I now only need the sound of the first 8 clicks. How can I mute the rest of the click track, keeping the first 8 clicks audible, without cutting or deleting the rest?

If you have recorded the click to its own track, then set an automated mute on that track after the 8th click

Use automation on the mute control. It's a binary operation, can only be on or off, so easy to automate.
