Sound and samplerate in Mixbus32C
#1
Hi,
I'm a lot confused about setting my samplerate into Mixbus32C.
I watched a lot of videos about samplerate, aliasing, oversampling, etc.
But I can't decide a what samplerate I should use.
I'm only doing mixing and mastering, so my goal is simply to acheive the best sound with my RME Multiface 1.
Is the sound better in Mixbus with higher samplerate ? (96k or  192k for instance)
And, if not, what the goal of higher samplerate ? Latency for realtime playing ?
thanks for your help,
regards,
Charles.

This is a hughe discussion. On Paper higher samplerate is better, greater spectrum (so your dog will hear the difference very well if your speaker does transport it) and a better impulse response. But wether this is really audible, especially when your final medium is 44,1kHz and so conversion is needed (which does at least something to your sound), is a discussion as old as higher samplerates. Processing in higher rates can be a benefit in the sound aspect. My humble opinion is: listen and if you hear any difference/benefit, than go for it. Try for example 88,2kHz if yiour final result should be 44,1kHz, becaus it translates better if it has a ratio of 1 to 2 and not 1 to 1.7466588277389947725 Wink

In terms of latency Dingo has the correct link attached.

96khz. FWIW-You can't DO 192khz with a Multiface1. I know-I have one. Wink  ....and have to go to my consumer system to play back 192khz and DSD two track masters.

Set it. Forget it. Make music.
