Mixbus 8 - Launching Sessions

I've been using Mixbus since the 6th generation. Recently upgraded to 8. I’ve always been in the habit of launching existing sessions via the Ardour file. With 8 it seems that’s no longer possible, and I have to launch the app first and then select the session from the 'recent' list.

Is this an intended change in the software, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Cpifer - welcome to the Mixbus Forum.
Double click to launch works - what might be occurring for you is that the default application for .ardour files may be set to Mixbus v6.
If you have created a session with v8, and try to launch that with v6 a Loading Error should pop up and say...

Session "/Volumes/Disc Name/Folder Name/Session Name" did not load successfully:
Incomatible Session Version. That session was created with a newer version of Mixbus.

If this is the case you can try clicking right mouse on the .ardour file and select Open with (choose MB v8).
I am not a Win user, but in macOS I would Get Info and set the application default.
From my dim memory of Win, you can right mouse select open with and somewhere there is an option to make that the default... Google for a real answer there..

Here's how it looks in Windows 10:- if you right-click on a .ardour file, then click Properties->Change you can then choose which program will open .ardour files from now on.

I'm having the same problem. Used to have Mixbus 3 - have now completely uninstalled (and removed all registry mentions just to make 100% sure, and deleted the APPDATA/LOCAL/Mixbus3 folder). When I install Mixbus 8, it isn't giving me Mixbus as the file association for .ardour files - if I select Mixbus 8 for "Open With", it gives me the splash screen, but then crashes. If I open the file once Mixbus 8 has loaded, it loads file.

The crash info is below:
