I am using a MOTU interface with a large number of inputs and outputs. I want 32 channels of ADAT to feed my digital console channel strips, and 32 analog i/o for connecting my outboard gear for mixing. I am on Windows 10 using MOTU PCI ASIO. Is there a way to name each input and output for convenience? For example, I want Analog 1 send to be Distressor, and Analog 1 return to be Distressor, Analog 2 send to be ISA430, return 2 to be ISA430, etc. ADAT output 1 to be named Console 1, ADAT output 2 to be named Console 2, etc.

AFAIK it is on the to do list... you can rename the inputs on the Record page of 32C but not the outputs.
In macOS you can create an Aggregate device and rename I/O labels. These labels appear in Mixbus.
I know this request has come up before and I dont think there is an OS based solution in WIN.

I did notice that it is much more readable than it used to be, but quickly naming inputs and outputs and inserts is a necessity that should be addressed. Otherwise, I have to keep a list somewhere of which ADAT and which analog connection goes where if I want to use my console and/or outboard equipment. Thanks.

I'm using Jack and name my IO there - this is systemwide and not only Mixbus.

I'll check it out. Any latency with JACK?

Neat! I finally got my MOTU 828 MK3 and MOTU 828 MK3 Hybrid configured as an aggregate device, but have not changed the labels yet. Thanks for the tip!

@ DigiMix, you can rename the aggregate device channels in Audio/MIDI setup.
Also you can make an Aggregate device with one I/O only, you do not have to have two devices.

How do you do this with jack? I tried it several times but it does not seem to be permanent.

Well it's not directly in Jack, it's actually in qjackctl.
