It reminded me of a session someone once sent me of the single All Right Now by a British band called Free. I was amazed to realise it was only 8 tracks!! I'll bet most of the Beatles stuff was too.

Early Beatles stuff was mono, they recorded 4-track and "Beatles-Stereo" is LCR.
The 50th anniversary remake of "Sgt. Pepper's" by the original Mixer's son in real stereo is amazing though!

IIRC the All Right Now tape looked like this:-

1) Drums-L
2) Drums-R
3) Guitar
4) Guitar (double-tracked to make it sound beefier)
5) Bass
6) Vocals
7) Piano
8) Wood block
