How Can I Use Mixbus 7 As A Drum Machine Using Supplied Add-Ons
#1
Do I need an audio interface to do this?  How do I load the add-on?

I'm a complete novice, so please bear with me.

Thanks.

Been trying, watching the "Making Better Noise" videos, keep coming up empty.  It would help if I knew for sure whether or not I need an audio interface.

if there should come any sound out of your computer you will for sure need any audio interface (as a minimum onboard sound is needed)

I use my motherboard soundcard for mixing and recording the screen for tutorials. (realtek OK)
If ASIO is needed you need an outboard interface, I use Yamaha UR22.
free drum machines: (I do not use them)

How do I load the VST drum machines into the program? Mixbus 7 comes with a couple of kits. My MB soundcard works for Audacity so I figure it should work for Mixbus. Like I said, all this is totally new to me.

Hi Tepid_Pilot welcome to the Mixbus forum...

Hi Tepid,

Edit: You don't need an audio interface but I recommend you download and ASIO4ALL and choose that in Mixbus as your audio engine.  Noticed you're using an MB so you don't need ASIO4ALL

The term "drum machine" has expanded over the years. For many people it means low-fi 808 type sounds played robotically, a newer interpretation would be a sophisticated program like "Jamstix" that realistically emulates a drummer playing through changes in a song form. For other people it means assembling drum parts from a library of midi clips in Toontrack EZ Drummer.

You could "program" in the drum beats using the Mixbus MIDI editor. The drum sounds usually are assigned standard note values following General Midi. They were assigned that way so they could be played in real time from a piano midi keyboard.

Here's what a drum part looks like in the MIDI "piano roll" editor. These notes were played in via an edrum kit but you can manually place the notes in this view in Mixbus

EDIT - I just checked out MT Power Drumkit 2 - it's free to download the full version and it's interface let's you easily string together "grooves" and "fills" into complete drum parts for a song

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me.  It took some doing, but between studying the manual and looking on u2b I am now on my way.  Much of the problem was in knowing what to look for and how to word the searches.  This video, "Simple Drum Programming in Mixbus/Ardour" is what got me on my way.  I also downloaded the MT Power Drumkit and I'll try messing around with that once I'm better at navigating the Mixbus edit window.

Again, thank you.
