Meters in Mixbus2
#1
I know it'll come with Mixbus3 cause it is already implemented in Ardour3. But would it be a big work to add at least the RMS+peak metering by default in Mixbus2 ? It would really improve the mixing process IMHO.

When you are on Linux you can use these LV2 plugins - have not used them myself but heard good things about them

here's a nice article on them

Thanks for your answer. I've installed them already, they're useful and are actually the same meters than the one implemented in Ardour3 that i'm asking for. BUT in most of cases i find them not as practical and useful used like LV2 plugins than directly seen in the meters of the DAW.

Ah, i'm not sure i was clear actually. It's of course a feature request to the Mixbus team that i made here.

I believe, and Mixbus people please correct me if I'm wrong, but the K meter is the RMS meter......if you watch the youtube video on metering, it explains it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPCUFlAsO8Q

yes, it doesn't do the traditional RMS levels like -12, or -18.....it has a diff scale.....the K scale.....if your mix hits Zero on the K meter, that's -14 RMS. So I shoot for that when I mix......

Again, I think I'm right?

The K-meter is very useful too, but is only on the master bus, not on each tracks.

No answer from Harrison, i guess it means my request won't happen. Sorry for the disturbance.

Hi Youki,

We are not likely to add features in v2 that are already developed in Ardour v3. We'd rather spend that time updating Mixbus to v3.

Of course, with Mixbus you never have to take "no" for an answer. You can program the changes yourself, or contract/convince an open-source developer to do it for you. That's an option you don't have with any other commercial DAW!

Thanks for your answer, even if it's a "no", which i actually prefers rather than no answer at all.

I'm sure i have quite a looong time to wait before to have the possibility to use a stable version of Mixbus3. So i would have to find someone to do it for me. I don't have any ideas how much it would cost to pay developer to do this. And first i have to find him/her. And i'm not made of money, so it's a pity to have to pay again for this when i already paid for Mixbus and giving every months to Ardour. Or maybe i could start to learn how to do it myself, the problem being that it needs time and knowledge that i don't really have. I could also give up and just use some plugins, even if i find it really not as elegant and practical. Well, i'll have to investigate all these options.
