Beware Monitor does not hear all sound out 1+2
#1
Just a user beware note. We use mixbus 32c for live streaming at a house of worship. Just got a Presonus  Faderport16 which is great. Use Dante Virtual sound card . Send program audio mix out 1+2, and monitor mix out 3+4. Yesterday the metronome button got accidentally selected, at last minute. It was heard by the video stream operator about 100meters away at their station. However the Mixbus operator does not hear this because Mixbus monitor module does not monitor right at the output of 1+2. Somewhere after where the monitor module listens to 1+2,  the metronome is mixed in. Ok I’ve found out where to disable the metronome output and for double safety turn it’s volume down.
But not the normal expectation that you have on desk. If it says you monitor 1+2 , then that’s what you should hear. All of it. But no worries, it was sorted out 13 seconds before stream started.

whew!

Mixbus32C was not intended for live/streaming purposes.  We have developed a new product, Mixbus VBM, which is intended for that task.  We haven't set a price on our website yet.  But this might be a good solution for you in the future.  We are currently testing VBM with some high-profile corporate broadcasters.

Best,

Thanks Ben. That VBN sounds interesting. But I still challenge the concept that if a monitor module says it’s listening to output 1+2, then other sounds can be mixed into that output without the monitor hearing. That’s not standard mixer protocol. That “feature” should be a selectable item, not a default setting.
And the the manual doesn’t help, because again you would assume you could hear metronome in monitor module if using one, from what it states

“ By default, the metronome connects itself to the first 2 soundcard outputs, or into the Monitor if you are using a monitor section.”

But easy workaround is I’ll just deselect metronome inTemplate that’s used each week so it won’t happen again, now that we know.

Apart from this, and since v7.015, no longer being able to solo VCAs  (PFl, afl), (you could in earlier versions), Mixbus works brilliantly for streaming. Along with Faderport 16, Mixbus provides an extremely versatile and cost effective , reliable, quallity solution. And being able to record and do virtual sound check once band is gone at end of practice, is an indispensable feature for live-streaming, that Mixbus enables. Without the virtual sound check feature, any software is of limited use for live streaming of many events with a live band to mix
