Recording automation at non-play speeds - Ben@Harrison - 02-26-2014

This question came up on the email support list, so I thought I would share the answer here:

Quote:I was playing around on Mixbus and started messing around with the shuttle speed control. Is there anyway I can record like some automation in the track using that?

You can record automation at speeds other than play, yes.

Here are 2 tricks I have used in the past:

1) you can start writing some automation in "write" mode, then click to locate the playhead far in the future. Your automation setting will be carried out to that position, overwriting anything in the interim.

2) You can use the shift+left-arrow to speed up the playback speed, and write "touch" automation while playing the tracks faster. Note that you are getting audio at 2x or higher speed from the disk, so you need a very fast hard drive.
