Full Version: Changing polarity widens the sound

This is a stereo track for acoustic guitar with each side sourced from a different mic. It sounds very much centered as it was just recorded (levels on each pretty much the same) although when changing the polarity of one side as shown here results in the sound widening substantially, as if for instance, a width control was put to the max. A little compensation is needed on the pan, but the result is still there. What is the technical reason behind this ?

Cheers.

If it is getting wider it could be (probably) out of phase cancelling in the middle. Good thing there is a phase correlation meter above the master bus to check this.
