change the theme of the GUI? I see in videos where some folks have changed the color scheme of the mixer and other GUI area to a lighter or more colorful theme. Is this something in the preferences or done by scripting?

This thread is old but will get you started, search the Forum there are lots of posts and plenty of themes that have been posted. 

Colors are modified in the Preferences menu of MB


The Mixbus Preferences folder is where the theme file is located... details here. The MB folder for v9 is mixbus9, v8 mixbus8 etc.
