"Eye Doctor" - my custom color theme for Mixbus3
#1
Hi evebody,

I was uncomfortable with the default Ardour color scheme and after some tweaking made a selection of colors which are easier to my eyes and to my taste\monitor.

Let me share with you what I have here - "Eye Doctor" theme.

My goal was to arrange colors in a more comfortable combination, avoiding strong colors and to color-code important elements.

I was not able to find how to edit channelstrip elements made by Harrison, I hope they will give us this possibility. For instance, I couldnt find how to change Mute and Solo buttons in Mixer view (I don`t like PaleYellow-PaleGreen, I`d prefer StrongYellow-StrongRed).
I used "flat" buttons option.

This is my font scaling for 1280x1024 screen:

Feel free to experiment with colors yourselves: Alt+P - Theme tab - Items

Installation:

All you need to do is just replace your default "my-dark.colors" file with mine (which has the same name).

.zip   Eye Doctor.zip (Size: 4.2 KB / Downloads: 109)

Under Win:

1. Go to C:\Users\YOUR_NAME_\AppData\Local\Mixbus3

2. Make backup of your own "my-dark.colors" file and replace it with mine.

If you don`t like it then overwrite mine with yours.

Have fun!

P.S. There are many cool color themes by Yriisem here:

Have a look, choose your theme and install it according to the instruction above.

Andy76, you are great saver of eye and nervesSmile

Oly one remark, I found that increasing the font scaling makes the text end runing out of the box http://screencast.com/t/rfsrygVvlJ

for example mixbus sends the numbers are lost
But can be screen property dependent it is on mine that is less than x1024.
Thanks for your help
Tassy

I also agree that solo mute colors.
I really cannot understand what idea made Harrison to change elementary, basic shortcuts (like zoom) and logical colors (like mute red and solo yellow) etc.. we have got used to in thousands of hours using and helping to develop MB2 for yearsSad

I could change mute to red, solo to yelow in the themes menu but it changed only in the edit view, the mixer view stayed as it was (yellow-green).
IT IS A BUG!

Also the theme items have all crazy names most cannot be understood what they mean, I would ask Harrison to make a help diagram with arrows to show what name means what and where to find them in the gui. The programmer who made it can understand it for sure but we are mixers and they are Greek for most of us.
What the heck is "solo safe fill active" for example and where to find it in the gui? it is one of the hundreds.
Thanks

Tassy, thanks for the warm feedback!

Mixbus on your screenshot looks really congested and barely usable, Im sorry to see it. Im sure it is because you have lower resolution.

I spent a couple of nights figuring out what these weird names mean in Ardour, had to click on them to see any changes. Some of these options are not working btw.

"solo safe fill active" - if you right-click on any Solo button in the Editor you will see two Solo modes - Isolate and Safe. Perhaps it relates to the color of a pressed Solo button while Safe is on.

Thanks Andy76 but it is still dark for me how a solo can be isolate or safe.
A street or a car can be safe but a solo button???Sad
I have no time for mind-readingSmile

My screen resolution will be better if I gain braveness to install V3 to my big PC again, (I test it on my laptop) but so far I have not got any feedback regarding my question whether mono plugs still die in MB2 when V3 latest is also installed, as they died with the very first V3 release.

Beautiful illustration with the hardware console picture. I love it.
With overwriting the file Andy made for us the first time I like what I see in V3 GUISmile
My "console feeling" has returned
