Is there some particular reason to use that bridge? What is it does better/differently?

For me, I had to find an alternative to the airwaves-vst bridge I was using since something changed in wine-devel (probably after 5.7 or 5.8) and various 64-bit plugins that worked stopped working. In addition plugins that didnt work with airwave-vst (Roland synths, no gui) now work with the new bridge. I also like the script way to convert .dll files to .so. For those interested (havent tested myself) the author of the bidgde says that is also supports plugin groups, plugins that have the ability to communicate with other instances (e.g FabFilter Pro-Q 3, MMultiAnalyzer). It supports both 32 and 64bit plugins (tested by me).
